If you’re planning a trip to Roatan and want the best beach on the island, West Bay is where you want to be.

This is the stretch of coastline Roatan is known for—clear turquoise water, soft white sand, and some of the easiest snorkeling right off the shore. It’s also where you’ll find the island’s top beachfront hotels, from luxury resorts to more laid-back stays.

But here’s the thing: not all hotels in West Bay are the same.

Some are true beachfront in the best location, while others are set farther back or feel more dated. And depending on your budget and travel style, the “best” hotel can look very different.

That’s exactly why I put this guide together.

Below are my picks for the best hotels in West Bay Roatan, including beachfront resorts, boutique hotels, and more affordable places to stay. I’ve broken them down by who they’re best for, so you can quickly find the one that fits your trip.

After 15+ trips to Roatán, I’ve stayed in West Bay again and again. If you’re still deciding where to base yourself, my complete guide on where to stay in Roatan compares West Bay, West End, and who each area is best for.

Oh, and if you’re working on putting your whole trip together, my Plan a Trip to Roatán guide walks you through everything step by step, from where to stay to what to book before you go.

Don’t want to read the full guide? No problem! Here are my top hotel/resort picks. Choose any of them, and you’ll be set!

Kimpton Grand Roatan

Best high-end accommodations, spa & restaurants. Right on the water where you can snorkel.

Infinity Bay Spa & Beach Resort

Right next to Grand Roatan, great condo-style rooms for families.

Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort

Great beach and food setup. Excellent for families.

Naboo Resort & Dive Center

Smaller, modern and adults-only, with a short walk to West Bay Beach.

Paradise Beach & Resort

Right on West Bay Beach with pools, restaurants and plenty of room options for families.

Ibagari

Quiet, upscale and much more intimate than the big West Bay resorts.

Bananarama Beach & Dive Resort

Beachfront, laid-back and affordable. A great pick for divers and travelers who don't need a fancy resort.

West Bay Lodge & Spa

A quieter, more personal stay with tropical grounds and a short walk to the beach.

How I Chose These West Bay Hotels

I’ve been coming to Roatán for more than 20 years and have now visited the island 15+ times. I’ve stayed in West Bay on every trip, including three stays at Infinity Bay, three times at the Grand Roatán before it became the Kimpton. And, since the transition, we’ve stayed at the Kimpton Grand Roatán a few times.

My very first Roatán trip actually included stays at Paradise Beach and Bananarama—long before West Bay looked the way it does today.

I haven’t personally slept at every hotel on this list, and I’ll tell you when I haven’t. But I’ve spent a lot of time walking this beach, eating at these resorts, snorkeling and diving here, and watching West Bay change over the years.

So these aren’t rankings based only on star ratings or online reviews. I’m looking at the things that actually matter once you’re here: where the hotel sits on the beach, what you’re getting for the money, who it’s best for, and what might make me choose somewhere else.

Best Hotels in West Bay Roatan: Quick Comparison

Tip: If being directly on West Bay Beach matters to you, pay attention to location—not just the words “West Bay” in the hotel listing. Some properties are directly on the main white-sand beach, while others are a short walk or taxi ride away.

What I Wish People Knew Before Booking a West Bay Hotel

After staying in West Bay quite a few times over the years, there are a few things I wish people understood before choosing a hotel. Because honestly, you can spend a LOT more money here without necessarily getting a better beach.

Not Every “West Bay” Hotel Is Actually on West Bay Beach

This is probably the biggest thing to pay attention to when you're looking at hotels.

A property can be listed as being in West Bay without actually sitting directly on the main stretch of West Bay Beach. That doesn't necessarily make it a bad choice, but if your vision involves walking out of your hotel and directly onto that white-sand beach, check the location carefully before booking.

Some hotels are directly beachfront, some are a short walk away, and others are waterfront but aren't on the main sandy beach.

Expensive Resorts Don't Get a Better Ocean

This sounds obvious, but it's worth saying.

Kimpton and Infinity Bay sit right next to each other. You can walk from the beach in front of Infinity Bay to the beach in front of Kimpton in about 1 minute.

You're swimming in essentially the same water and snorkeling the same reef whether you're paying for a luxury room at the Kimpton or staying somewhere less expensive nearby. It's not as if you're only allowed to snorkel the portion of the reef directly by your hotel. You can swim, snorkel, paddleboard, etc. in all of the water.

What you're paying extra for is the hotel experience—newer rooms, restaurants, spa, service and amenities—not a prettier Caribbean Sea.

And yes, I love a fancy hotel. I'm just saying you should know what you're paying for.

Rooms at Infinity Bay Can Be Very Different

We've stayed at Infinity Bay three times, and this is something I'd want to know before booking.

Many of the condos are individually owned, which means one unit may be beautifully updated while another may feel more dated.

The location, pool and beach are fantastic either way, but don't assume every room looks exactly like the prettiest photos you see online.

I would look carefully at the specific room type and photos when booking.

The Middle of West Bay Can Get Busy

West Bay is popular for a reason. The beach is gorgeous, the snorkeling is easy, and there are restaurants and bars all along the sand.

But that also means the central part of the beach can get busy during the day. If you like being in the middle of everything, that's great.

If you'd rather have a quieter, more upscale feel, I'd look toward properties on the edges of West Bay or consider somewhere like Ibagari.

FYI, it may be busier at times, but I have never once not been able to do something I wanted to or had to wait for even one second for a table at a restaurant.

Decide What You're Actually Willing to Pay More For

This is really how I'd choose.

If I were splurging because I wanted a more modern, beautiful room and hotel with great restaurants, a spa and a true luxury-resort experience, I'd pay more for the Kimpton.

If I cared more about having extra space, a kitchen and a great beachfront location, I'd save some money and choose Infinity Bay.

And if my main goal was simply to wake up, put on a swimsuit and spend the day on West Bay Beach, I wouldn't feel like I had to book the most expensive hotel to have an amazing trip.

The beach is the star here. Your hotel just determines how fancy you want things to be when you walk back inside.

Best Luxury Hotel in West Bay Roatan: Kimpton Grand Roatan

Kimpton Grand Roatan family resort
Oceanview bedroom with balcony in Roatan hotel.

If you want a true luxury hotel in West Bay, Roatán, this is it. My family stayed at the Kimpton Grand Roatán on our most recent trip, so I got a pretty good look at what you’re actually paying for here.

The Kimpton sits right on West Bay Beach with direct access to some of the clearest water and best snorkeling on the island. If you’re wondering whether Roatan is actually worth the trip, this beach is one of the biggest reasons we keep coming back.

The rooms feel modern and high-end (not outdated Caribbean), and many have ocean views or even private plunge pools… though, I’ve never understood the point of a plunge pool when the crystal-clear ocean and infinity pool are right outside your door. But anyway…  There’s also a full-service spa, multiple restaurants, and a more elevated, boutique feel than most resorts in the area.

My family has stayed at this resort, and it’s truly one of the nicest resorts we’ve ever been to. However, everything is VERY pricey. Like, when we stayed there, the buffet breakfast was $50 per person, which was pricey.  I mean, it was good and all, but I can’t drink enough alcohol at 7 am to justify that pricetag.

Best for: Couples, luxury travelers, first-time visitors, really anyone who is on vacation, where money isn’t part of the decision-making.

Why stay here: You get the best beach + best hotel in one place.

Pros

  • Very new with a lot of amenities.
  • Excellent beach near a cool coral reef wall.
  • Modern, upscale design (feels luxury—not dated Caribbean)
  • Excellent restaurants + spa + service
  • Quiet end of West Bay.  (less crowded than center)
  • Great snorkeling directly off the beach, you can wade into water to do it.

Cons

  • Expensive compared to other options
  • Food and drinks can be pricey
  • Not all-inclusive (some travelers expect this)
  • While everyone is professional and very friendly, the overall vibe can be a bit more of a disconnected/ostentatious feel.

My recommendation: It’s definitely a splurge hotel, but it is worth it if you’re planning for the expense. The things that elevate this hotel are the brand newness of everything, the incredible spa and the amazing food. However, the beach is the same for all of the resorts up and down the beach, so this part is no more special than other hotels.

Best Location & Value in West Bay: Infinity Bay Spa & Beach Resort

Beautiful resort pool in Roatan with lush tropical surroundings and relaxing sun loungers.
Modern kitchen and living area in a cozy apartment in Roatan.

I’ve stayed at Infinity Bay three times, and it’s still one of my favorite hotels in West Bay Roatan for the combination of location, space, and price. It’s right on the beach, has a massive pool that runs almost to the ocean, and offers condo-style rooms that work especially well for families or longer stays.

It’s usually more affordable than the Kimpton but still puts you on one of the best stretches of West Bay Beach. Just know that many of the condos are individually owned, so the rooms can vary quite a bit.

Best for: Families, longer stays, value-for-location

Why stay here: Prime beachfront without full luxury pricing.

Pros:

  • One of the best beachfront locations in West Bay… However, it’s the same beach as the other resorts.
  • Incredible snorkeling right off shore. Same at the Kimpton, where you can walk into the ocean and snorkel.
  • Large pool + resort-style amenities
  • Condo-style rooms (great for families or longer stays)
  • Optional all-inclusive packages

Cons:

  • Can feel busy/crowded (very popular resort)
  • Not as modern/luxurious as Kimpton
  • Many condo units are independently owned and rented out. Some of them aren’t updated or kept up as much as others.
  • Service can be inconsistent during peak times
  • More “resort feel” than boutique

My Recommendation: If you get an updated room, this is a really solid choice for a family. The condos we’ve stayed in have had two separate rooms with king-size beds, separate bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The pool is great, the beach is wonderful, and you’re right next door to the Kimpton.

Best All-Inclusive in West Bay: Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort

Aerial view of West Bay Beach in Roatan, showcasing clear waters, boats, and lush tropical surroundi.
Cozy hotel room in Roatan with two beds, artwork, and a TV.

If you want an all-inclusive resort in West Bay Roatán, Mayan Princess is one of the options I’d consider, especially for families who want an easy vacation without planning every meal. I haven’t stayed here personally, but I’ve spent plenty of time around the resort and have eaten at the restaurant.

It’s right on West Bay Beach with pools, restaurants and an on-site dive shop. It doesn’t have the newer, more polished feel of the Kimpton, but it gives you that “everything is taken care of” type of vacation without jumping to Kimpton-level pricing.

Best for: All-inclusive travelers, families

Why stay here: Easy, stress-free vacation setup

Pros

  • All-inclusive option
  • Great beachfront access
  • Large pool + multiple restaurants
  • On-site dive shop + activities
  • Family-friendly
  • Pirate Kids Club designed to give parents peace of mind while they relax by the pool or on the beach. It provides planned, fun, and educational activities for kids aged 4 to 11 more

Cons

  • Older property (not as modern as competitors)
  • Can be noisy with families/kids
  • Booking process can be clunky
  • Food is convenient but not always standout

Best Mid-Range Beachfront Resort: Paradise Beach Hotel & Resort

Paradise Beach Hotel & Resort is one I’d look at if you want to stay directly on West Bay Beach but don’t necessarily want to pay Kimpton prices. It sits right on the sand and has more of a traditional Caribbean resort feel, with pools, restaurants, a dive center, and several different types of rooms and villas.

I actually stayed at Paradise Beach on my very first trip to Roatán more than 20 years ago. We split that week between Paradise Beach and Bananarama, which is kind of funny considering both are still here, right next to each other and I’m still coming back to West Bay all these years later. Who knows, we were young!

Obviously, I’m not going to compare a hotel room I stayed in 20+ years ago to what you’ll find there today. A LOT has changed in West Bay since that trip. But I do know the location extremely well, and that’s still one of the biggest reasons I’d consider Paradise Beach. You’re directly on West Bay Beach and within easy walking distance of restaurants, bars and other resorts.

Best for: Families, groups, and travelers who want a full-service beachfront resort without going all-in on luxury

Why stay here: Direct West Bay Beach access + central location + lots of amenities

Pros

  • Directly on West Bay Beach
  • Central location that’s easy for walking to restaurants and bars
  • Multiple pools and on-site dining
  • Different room and villa configurations for couples, families and groups
  • On-site dive center
  • A good middle ground between the more basic properties and high-end luxury resorts

Cons

  • Doesn’t have the newer, more polished feel of the Kimpton
  • The central West Bay location can be busier during the day
  • Larger resort atmosphere may not appeal to travelers looking for something small and boutique

My recommendation: I wouldn’t base my recommendation on a room I slept in more than 20 years ago. But after coming back to West Bay again and again, I can absolutely recommend the location. If being directly on the beach, walking to restaurants and having a full resort setup matter more to you than staying somewhere ultra-luxurious, Paradise Beach is worth putting on your shortlist.

Best Boutique & Unique Hotels in West Bay

West Bay is better known for its larger beachfront resorts, but if you’re looking for something smaller, quieter and more personal, there are a few smaller boutique-style hotels worth considering: Ibagari for upscale, romantic luxury, Naboo for an adults-only stay closer to the heart of West Bay, and West Bay Lodge for a small tropical hotel within walking distance of the beach.

The biggest thing to know is that these don’t give you quite the same experience as staying at one of the big resorts directly on West Bay Beach. So I’d choose a boutique hotel because you specifically want the smaller atmosphere, not because you’re expecting the classic West Bay beachfront-resort experience.

Ibagari — Best Boutique Luxury Hotel for Couples

Relaxed beachfront lounge with ocean view in Roatan. Spacious hotel room in Roatan with modern decor, ocean views, and relaxing ambiance near West Bay.

If you’re looking for a boutique hotel in Roatan that’s quiet, unique, and a little “bougie-fancy pants,” Ibagari is a standout. It’s away from the busiest part of West Bay, which means fewer crowds and a much more relaxed, upscale vibe.

It’s one of the more luxurious boutique hotels in Roatan, but the location is a little different from the traditional West Bay resorts. You’re trading the big white-sand West Bay Beach experience for more privacy and a quieter stay.

Best for: Couples, honeymoon vibe, boutique lovers

Why stay here: Peaceful luxury without the crowds

Pros

  • One of the most design-forward boutique hotels on the island

  • Quiet, secluded, romantic atmosphere

  • Stunning restaurant Luna Muna is a huge draw. We’ve personally eaten here, and it’s incredible. They also have a sunset toast with Champagne for everyone, and while my daughters thought it was “cringe”, my husband and I enjoyed it. Or, maybe it was just the free champagne.

  • Less crowded than the main West Bay strip

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Not directly in the main West Bay area (short walk/taxi) and while it is on the beach, it’s not the white sand type where you envision hanging out at.

  • Not all-inclusive

  • Limited “activity” vibe (very relaxed)

My recommendation: This is a gorgeous hotel, but it’s a bit isolated. You’ll need to take a taxi if you want to go to many other restaurants or activities. If you’re looking for a laid back more chill experience, this would be great for couples. I’m not sure it’s the best place for small kids.

Naboo Resort & Dive Center — Best Adults-Only Boutique Hotel

Naboo Resort & Dive Center is another boutique-style option I’d consider if you want something smaller and quieter than the big West Bay resorts.

It’s adults-only, which immediately gives it a different feel from many of the larger family-friendly properties along the beach.

The biggest difference between Naboo and Ibagari is location and overall vibe. Naboo puts you closer to the heart of West Bay and within a short walk of the beach, while Ibagari feels more secluded and upscale. Naboo isn’t directly beachfront, though, so that’s the tradeoff.

There’s a pool, restaurant and bar on-site, plus its own PADI dive center. That makes it especially interesting for couples or divers who want a smaller hotel but still want to be close to everything in West Bay.

Best for: Couples, divers, adults who prefer a smaller hotel

Why stay here: Adults-only + modern rooms + walkable West Bay location

Pros

  • Adults-only
  • Smaller and quieter than the large West Bay resorts
  • Short walk to West Bay Beach
  • On-site pool, restaurant and bar
  • PADI dive center on-site
  • Good option for couples and divers

Cons

  • Not directly on West Bay Beach
  • Doesn’t have the sprawling pools, spa and amenities of the larger resorts
  • If your dream is walking directly from your hotel onto the sand, I’d choose a beachfront property instead
  • Less of a full-service resort experience

My recommendation: If I wanted a smaller adults-only hotel and didn’t mind walking a few minutes to the beach, I’d definitely compare Naboo with Ibagari. I’d choose Ibagari if I wanted more of a romantic luxury splurge, but Naboo makes more sense if I wanted to be closer to the action in West Bay without staying at one of the big resorts.

West Bay Lodge & Spa — Best Small Tropical Hotel Near the Beach

West Bay Lodge & Spa is another option I’d look at if you want something smaller and more personal than the big West Bay resorts. It has more of a tropical bungalow feel, with lush grounds, a pool, restaurant and spa, and some accommodations include a kitchen or kitchenette.

The biggest thing to understand is the location. West Bay Lodge isn’t directly on the beach, so you won’t walk out of your room and immediately hit the sand. But West Bay Beach is only a short walk away. For some travelers, trading direct beachfront for a smaller, quieter property may actually be worth it.

Best for: Couples, independent travelers, longer stays, and anyone who prefers small hotels over large resorts

Why stay here: Small tropical setting + walkable to West Bay Beach

Pros

  • Smaller, more intimate property
  • Short walk to West Bay Beach
  • Pool and spa
  • On-site restaurant
  • Kitchen/kitchenette options can be useful for longer stays
  • Quieter alternative to the large beachfront resorts

Cons

  • Not directly beachfront
  • Doesn’t offer the same full-resort experience as Kimpton, Infinity Bay or Mayan Princess
  • You’ll have to walk to the beach rather than stepping directly onto it
  • Not the choice I’d make if beachfront location is your #1 priority

My recommendation: I’d consider West Bay Lodge if I wanted something small and tropical and didn’t care about staying directly on the sand. If you’re the kind of traveler who would rather have a quieter little hotel than a giant resort, this makes much more sense. But if waking up and walking straight onto West Bay Beach is the whole reason you’re coming, I’d spend more for one of the beachfront properties.

Best Affordable Hotel in West Bay: Bananarama Beach & Dive Resort

Beautiful courtyard at a Roatan resort with lush greenery and cozy accommodations. Perfect for relax.
Comfortable living room in a Roatan vacation rental with tropical decor.

Bananarama is all about location + vibe. It’s right on the beach, more casual, and much more affordable than the luxury resorts nearby.

There’s an on-site dive shop, a fun social atmosphere, and it’s perfect if you want something laid-back instead of polished.

If you’re thinking about learning to dive, I shared exactly what it was like getting scuba certified in Roatan as a nervous beginner.

Best for: Budget travelers, divers, and anyone who prefers a casual, social vibe

Why stay here: Beachfront without the luxury price

Pros

  • Affordable beachfront option
  • Fun, social, laid-back vibe
  • On-site dive shop (great for divers)
  • Repeat visitors love the atmosphere
  • Right in the middle of everything

Cons

  • Not luxury (very casual)
  • Rooms are simpler/basic and a bit more rustic.
  • No large resort-style pool
  • Can be noisy (bars, activity nearby)

My recommendation: I actually stayed at Bananarama on my very first trip to Roatán more than 20 years ago, long before Infinity Bay or the Kimpton were even there. Obviously, a lot has changed since then, so I’m not going to pretend my room experience from 20+ years ago tells you much about the rooms today.

What hasn’t changed is the reason people choose Bananarama: the location and the people. We visit the restaurant every time we’re in Roatán, and there is a waitress who always remembers us. ALWAYS! She’s watched my girls grow up and can’t believe how fast time goes. That’s pretty special.

It’s also right in the middle of West Bay Beach, has a laid-back tropical feel, and is especially popular with divers. If you want polished and fancy, this probably isn’t your place. If you care more about being on the beach without paying luxury-resort prices, it’s definitely worth a look.

Which West Bay Hotel Should You Choose?

After staying in West Bay over and over again, I don’t think there is one hotel that’s best for everyone. The beach is basically the constant. What changes is how much you want to spend, how fancy you want your hotel to be, and whether being directly on the sand matters to you.

Personally, I like my vacation hotel to feel nicer than my house. I want a spa available even if I never actually use it because I’d rather spend my money at the restaurant. Okay, fine. Bar.

Here’s how I’d narrow it down:

  • Choose Kimpton Grand Roatán if you want the nicest overall resort experience and you’re willing to pay for it. This is where I’d splurge for the rooms, spa, restaurants and service—not because the ocean is somehow better here.
  • Choose Infinity Bay if you want beachfront, a huge pool and more space for your money. This is probably where I’d start for a family, especially if a condo-style room and kitchen would be useful.
  • Choose Mayan Princess if you want an all-inclusive and don’t want to think about meals, drinks and activities once you arrive. It’s especially easy for families.
  • Choose Paradise Beach if being directly on West Bay Beach matters most but you don’t need Kimpton-level luxury. You get a central beachfront location and full-resort amenities without going all the way to the top of the price range.
  • Choose Ibagari if you’re planning a couples trip and want quiet, romantic and upscale. I’d choose it for the boutique experience—not for the classic white-sand West Bay Beach experience.
  • Choose Naboo if you want adults-only, smaller and modern while still being close to the action in West Bay. It’s also one I’d look at seriously if diving is a big part of your trip.
  • Choose West Bay Lodge if you prefer small tropical hotels over big resorts and don’t mind walking a few minutes to the beach. The kitchen options also make it interesting for a longer stay.
  • Choose Bananarama if you care more about beachfront location, diving and a laid-back atmosphere than fancy rooms. It’s casual, it’s right in the middle of West Bay, and that’s exactly the appeal.

If I were choosing for my own family today? I’d probably narrow it down to Kimpton or Infinity Bay. I’d choose Kimpton when I wanted the splurge and Infinity Bay when I wanted more room and better value. We’ve stayed at both multiple times, and I’d happily stay at either again.

Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in West Bay

West Bay is one of those places that really does live up to the photos. The water really is that clear, the sand really is that white, and yes—you really can walk into the ocean from the beach and start snorkeling.

I’ve been coming back to Roatán for more than 20 years, and West Bay has changed a LOT during that time. There are fancier hotels, more restaurants and definitely more people than there were on my first trip. But the reason I keep coming back hasn’t changed much at all.

That beach.

Choose the hotel that fits how you like to travel, and don’t stress too much about finding the “perfect” one. You’ll probably spend most of your time outside of your room anyway.

Apparently 15+ trips later, I’m still not tired of this place.

FAQs About Hotels in West Bay Roatan

What is the best hotel in West Bay Roatan?

For a luxury resort experience, I’d look at Kimpton Grand Roatán. For families or travelers who want more space and better value, Infinity Bay is one of my favorites. I’ve stayed at both multiple times, and they’re right next to each other on West Bay Beach.

What are the best beachfront hotels in West Bay Roatan?

Kimpton Grand Roatán, Infinity Bay, Mayan Princess, Paradise Beach and Bananarama are all options if staying directly on West Bay Beach is important to you. I’d choose between them based more on budget and the type of hotel experience you want than the beach itself.

What is the best all-inclusive hotel in West Bay Roatan?

Mayan Princess is the all-inclusive option I’d consider for families or travelers who want meals, drinks and resort amenities bundled into their stay. Infinity Bay also offers optional all-inclusive packages.

Are there boutique hotels in West Bay Roatan?

Yes. Ibagari is the one I’d consider for a quieter, more upscale couples trip, while Naboo is adults-only and closer to the main West Bay area. West Bay Lodge is another smaller tropical option within walking distance of the beach.

Is it better to stay in West Bay or West End Roatan?

I’d choose West Bay if your priority is the classic white-sand beach, easy snorkeling and a resort-style vacation. West End has a completely different feel, with more of a village atmosphere and lots of restaurants, bars and dive shops. I compare the two in my full Where to Stay in Roatan guide.
