But after multiple trips to the island, we’ve found ourselves returning to the same handful of places again and again—not because they’re the trendiest, but because they consistently deliver great food, friendly service, and memorable vacation experiences.

Fortunately, you don’t have to go far.

Over the years, we’ve eaten our way around West Bay, from beachfront seafood restaurants and casual pizza spots to upscale resort dining and local favorites tucked just off the main road. If I could only recommend one restaurant in West Bay, this would be it.

We’ve eaten at Luna Muna several times over the years, and every visit reminds me why it’s my favorite restaurant on the island. Set along the shoreline at the beautiful Ibagari Boutique Hotel, the open-air restaurant combines incredible Caribbean views, outstanding food, creative cocktails, and some of the best service we’ve experienced anywhere in Roatán.

The atmosphere somehow feels both elegant and completely relaxed. You can dress up for a special occasion or simply settle in, order another cocktail, and watch the sun slowly disappear into the Caribbean.

Then comes my favorite part.

Every evening at sunset, the staff walks through the restaurant offering every guest a complimentary glass of champagne for a sunset toast.

It’s such a thoughtful touch, and one of those little moments that transforms dinner into an experience you’ll remember long after your trip is over. My daughters found it cringy, but what do they know. Oh wait! They’re teenagers, they know everything. 🙂

We’ve eaten at quite a few restaurants in Roatán over the years, and Luna Muna is the one I get excited to return to every single trip. It’s easy to walk right past Kristi’s Island Kitchen without realizing one of West Bay’s best restaurants is just a three-minute walk from the beach.

That would be a mistake.

While many visitors head straight for the beachfront restaurants, Kristi’s has built a loyal following by serving incredibly flavorful Caribbean-inspired food that keeps people coming back.

Unlike many of West Bay’s beachfront restaurants, Kristi’s feels like the kind of place visitors discover after someone says, “You have to eat there.”

My Take

One of my favorite things about traveling is finding the places that aren’t necessarily the most obvious but end up being the most memorable. That’s exactly how I feel about Kristi’s.

Every time we visit Roatán, I tell myself I’m finally going to order something different. Then I see the jalapeño ribs on the menu, and my plan falls apart.

West Bay has some beautiful restaurants with incredible views, but if you asked me which meal I still crave after I get home, this would probably be the first one that comes to mind.

Sitting right on the beach, Argentinian Grill combines a beautiful waterfront setting with some of the best surf and turf meals we’ve had in Roatán. It’s become one of our favorite dinner spots thanks to the consistently excellent food, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service.

We make it a point to eat at Argentinian Grill on almost every trip to Roatán. Sea Cat at Kimpton Grand Roatan

Why It Wins

If you want an upscale dinner without feeling stuffy, Sea Cat is hard to beat.

Located on the beach at the Kimpton Grand Roatán, it combines beautiful ocean views, creative cocktails, excellent food, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger long after dinner is over.

Whatever you do, you MUST try their pickles. I know that’s a strange thing to recommend at a beachfront restaurant in Roatán, but trust me. My husband loved them so much that after we got home, I asked our private driver if he could get the recipe. He came back empty-handed after being politely told their recipe wasn’t leaving the kitchen. Now our standing joke is that on our next trip we’re going to sneak a pickle home in a Ziploc bag so I can finally crack the recipe.

If you’re looking for the classic Caribbean beach restaurant experience, La Palapa is hard to beat.

My Take

After several days of eating on the beach, it’s nice to change things up, and that’s exactly why we enjoy Naboo. The open-air deck overlooking the pool feels peaceful, the cocktails are excellent, and the atmosphere is noticeably more relaxed than many of West Bay’s beachfront restaurants. We always seem to arrive early enough to have the place almost to ourselves, and it’s become one of our favorite spots to slow down, enjoy a great meal, and simply savor another evening in Roatán.

My Final Thoughts

One of my favorite parts of visiting Roatán is that every meal feels a little different. One night we’re enjoying a sunset champagne toast at Luna Muna, another we’re ordering jalapeño ribs at Kristi’s, and somehow every trip includes a giant Monkey Lala at La Palapa and a pizza night at Pizzarama.

Rather than trying to eat at every restaurant on the island, I’d focus on choosing places that fit the kind of experience you’re looking for. Whether that’s a romantic dinner, a casual family meal, or simply somewhere to unwind after a day of snorkeling, there’s a restaurant on this list I’d happily recommend.
