If you’re staying in West Bay, you can swim out from the beach and explore part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef on your own. It’s one of the few places in the Caribbean where world-class snorkeling is that easy to access.
That said, a snorkeling tour is absolutely worth it if you want to experience places you can’t easily reach from shore. Tours visit sites like Blue Channel, Turtle Crossing, and offshore reefs where you’ll often find healthier coral, larger schools of fish, and some of the island’s best opportunities to spot sea turtles.
